For my first go at trying to texture something, I thought I'd have a go at my simple book model.

First step was to take some quick photos of a book that I was going to 'duplicate' - I chose 'The Swamp Thing'. Once the photos were uploaded, I imported a snapshot of the UVs into Photoshop and started cropping and positioning the photos onto the corresponding point of the UV map. Then it was just a case of moving this back into Maya. Simpler than first feared, but I can see how it could get a lot more complicated with more interesting models.
